Our client is customer focused, science led, and results driven. The company’s Investigative Analysis laboratory performs a wide range of analytical analyses for a variety of food, pharmaceutical and healthcare companies and supports Mondelez research and innovation.

 

The role of Senior Scientist I is to provide technical direction in the area of chromatography and mass spectrometry within the Investigative Analysis Laboratory.  The holder will ensure that projects are performed and supervised effectively, within agreed timescales and to the appropriate quality standards.  The role focuses on investigative analysis projects, method development and validation, focusing on LC-MS.  Mentor and train junior members of the team as well as client contact and project management.

 

Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Technical 

Provide high quality customer service at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of results. Perform a range of HPLC and LC-MS analyses Provide Technical direction for LC-MS projects within the team Perform complex method development and design validation protocols. Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment. Perform data checking and provide interpretation of results for routine testing. Generate certificates of analysis or interpretive reports. Expert user of specific software and proficient in the use of generic software packages required for the role: MassHunter, Xcalibur, Openlab, Laboratory’s LIMS system and Q-Pulse. Provide training and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods and interpretation. Take responsibility for elements of specific projects and/or specific areas of general laboratory/sample administration and assign housekeeping tasks as required.

 

Communication & Influence

Liaise with clients, commercial and line management to ensure effective communication of project proposals and results. Provide advice in client and stakeholder meetings. Deliver external presentations of data and internal presentations to senior technical stakeholders. Contributes to technical strategies & influence senior management. Manage projects or defined areas of projects.

 

Leadership and supervision

Plan own workload and plan routine projects for junior staff Train and mentor junior members of the team as required.

 

QEHS

Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed.  To complete assigned quality actions on a timely manner, including review and approval Write and approve SOPs and Test Methods Generation and approval of Risk Assessments and COSHH Understand and provide technical regulatory leadership in client audits. To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment. To understand and work to the requirements of GMP and UKAS.  Ensure training records are accurate.

Education / Certifications: 

Educated to Degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (chemistry) or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory.

 

Job specific requirements: 

Excellent understanding of HPLC, LC-MS, Extended experience of working in analytical laboratory, 

 

Work schedule: 

The standard hours for this role are Monday to Friday 9-5. There is scope for flexible start and finish times for example to allow for taking children to school
